Cytotoxicity of Shear Exfoliated Pnictogen (As,Sb, Bi) Nanosheets

The experimental achievement of phosphorene, which exhibits superior electronic, physical, and optical properties has spurred recent interest in other Group 15 elemental 2D nanomaterials such as arsenene, antimonene, and bismuthene. These unique and superior properties of the pnictogen nanosheets have spurred intensive research efforts and led to the discovery of their diversified potential applications; for instance, optical Kerr material, photonic devices, pnictogen-decorated microfibers, high-speed transistors, and flexible 2D electronics. Previous studies have mainly been dedicated to study the synthesis, properties, and applications of the heavy pnictogens nanosheets; however, the toxicological behaviour of these nanosheets has yet to be established. Herein, the cytotoxicity study of pnictogen nanosheets (As, Sb, and Bi) was conducted over 24 h of incubation with various concentrations of test materials and adenocarcinoma human lung epithelial A549 cells. After the treatment period, the remaining cell viabilities were obtained through absorbance measurements with WST-8 and MTT assays. These findings demonstrate that the toxicity of pnictogen nanosheets decreases down Group 15, whereby arsenic nanosheets are considered to be the most toxic, whereas bismuth nanosheets induce low cytotoxicity. The findings of this study constitute an important initial step towards enhancing our understanding of the toxicological effects of pnictogen nanosheets in light of their prospective commercial applications.     

Two weight commutators in the Dirichlet and Neumann Laplacian settings

In this paper we establish the characterization of the weighted BMO via two weight commutators in the settings of the Neumann Laplacian ${\mathrm{\Delta }}_{N_{+}}$ on the upper half space ${\mathbb{R}}_{+}^n$ and the reflection Neumann Laplacian ${\mathrm{\Delta }}_N$ on ${\mathbb{R}}^n$ with respect to the weights associated to ${\mathrm{\Delta }}_{N_{+}}$ and ${\mathrm{\Delta }}_N$ respectively. This in turn yields a weak factorization for the corresponding weighted Hardy spaces, where in particular, the weighted class associated to ${\mathrm{\Delta }}_N$ is strictly larger than the Muckenhoupt weighted class and contains non-doubling weights. In our study, we also make contributions to the classical Muckenhoupt–Wheeden weighted Hardy space (BMO space respectively) by showing that it can be characterized via the area function (Carleson measure respectively) involving the semigroup generated by the Laplacian on ${\mathbb{R}}^n$ and that the duality of these weighted Hardy and BMO spaces holds for Muckenhoupt $A^p$ weights with $p\in (1,2]$ while the previously known related results cover only $p\in (1,\frac{n+1}{n}]$. We also point out that this two weight commutator theorem might not be true in the setting of general operators L, and in particular we show that it is not true when L is the Dirichlet Laplacian ${\mathrm{\Delta }}_{D_{+}}$ on ${\mathbb{R}}_{+}^n$.     

Crystalline Boragermenes

Boragermene 3 featuring a double bond between the Ge and dicoordinate B atoms has been synthesized for the first time by reacting the cyclic (alkyl)(boryl)germylene–PMe₃ adduct 1 with Cl₂BN(SiMe₃)₂ followed by reductive dehalogenation with KC₈. Addition of a Lewis base (^MeNHC) to 3 leads to the formation of the corresponding adduct 4 , which shows double bond character between the Ge and tricoordinate B atoms. Compound 3 undergoes hydrogenation with H₂ concomitant with a complete scission of the Ge=B bond.
